Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. There will be two warming stations set up in Cherokee County this weekend. Latimer Hall, located at 103 Towne Lake Parkway, will be opening up at noon on Friday and will be closing at 9 a.m. on Monday. Please arrive by 6 p.m. each evening, and breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served. The second warming station will be at Action Church, located at 271 Marietta Road in Canton, this station will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. each evening to the following morning at 8 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be served. Please note, if no one arrives at the Woodstock or Canton stations by 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. respectively, the center will not open for the night. (Woodstock Press Release)
  2. A State of Emergency has been declared by the governor due to freezing temperatures, though our county is not expected to receive any snow accumulation. Please do keep in mind that with the freezing temps, any amount of water on the roadways will freeze, causing ice in spots. Ice isn't always apparent on pavement, black ice is a thin, clear layer of ice on the road that can look a lot like water. We are also expected to have wind gusts that will bring sub-zero temperatures and possible downed power lines and tree limbs, so it's a good idea to have alternative sources of light and heat at hand that don't require electricity. Crews are already starting to treat roads with brine solutions around the North Georgia area, and there are crews ready and waiting to treat any county roads that need it. (Cherokee County Press Release)
  3. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking for help identifying a man suspected in an assault that took place on December 18. The incident took place in the Waffle House at 1133 Highway 92 in Acworth. If you have any information about the incident or know who the man seen on the surveillance footage is, please reach out to the Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1, and you can reference case SO22-017680.
