Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. The Department of Justice is investigating sexual abuse claims regarding the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC). The SBC is cooperating with the investigation and announced it will address the issues fully and take measures to ensure history is not repeated. Accusations came to light in 2019, uncovered by a Houston Chronicle investigation. (ChristianHeadlines.com)
  2. The Cherokee County Board of Commissioners is holding a regular meeting tonight at the Cherokee Admin Complex on Bluffs Parkway. During the meeting, there will be a period for public comment as noted in the agenda, you can brush up on the rules for public participation on the Cherokee County Rules of Procedure portal online.   3. The second day of auditions is being held this evening for the Youth Spotlight Production's theater education program, "Charlotte's Web." In-person auditions start at 6 p.m., and video auditions will be accepted until 8:30 p.m.. Callbacks will take place on August 17 at 6 p.m. Please see the theater's website for important audition requirements and rehearsal and performance schedules.   • "Family Storytime" with Miss Madison at R.T. Jones Memorial Library. Stories, games and crafts. Children must be accompanied by an adult. (10:30 a.m.)
  • In the Chattahoochee Tech Synergy Room on Innovation Way, the "mINgle Committee Meeting" is a networking event held on the third Tuesday of every other month. (11 a.m.)
  • "Young Adult Trivia Night" at the Woodstock Public Library features trivia from young adult books, teen movies and shows and teen culture. Ages 13 and over, refreshments and snacks will be provided. Please register online. (6 p.m.)
  • "Game Night" with Lights Up! Entertainment at Reformation Brewery Woodstock. Purchase a $5 game pass for unlimited games. (6 p.m.)
  • "Home Grown Artist Talk: Chase King and Dorothy Reavis." The two local artists will "speak about the inspiration, process, and the context behind their work on display." The free event will be on the front porch of the Reeves House but will move inside if it rains. Please register online. (6:30 p.m.)
  • "Music Bingo" at Truck & Tap Woodstock every Tuesday. (7:30 p.m.)
  • "RPG Night!" and "Mario Kart Tournament!" at Blue Ghost Arcade on Towne Lake Parkway. (8 p.m.)

  • "Cry it Out" begins its run this Friday at the Woodstock Arts Theatre. The comedy is recommended for ages 13 and up, please purchase tickets online. (Woodstock Arts)
  • Speaking of Woodstock Arts, there are a lot of classes and workshops starting soon. There are classes for all ages, skill levels and interests. To highlight a couple, Clay Club and Handbuilding 101 classes start on Wednesday and are both for ages 13 and up.
