- There will be several Cherokee County government meetings this week with time slated for public hearings and public comment. You can see the schedule of government meetings here. Tonight, the Planning Commission is holding a work session at 6:30 p.m., with only three zoning cases on the agenda. Tuesday, a public hearing is listed in the agenda for the Board of Commissioners Regular Meeting at 6 p.m. Both meetings will be held at the Cherokee County Administrative Complex, Cherokee Hall, 1130 Bluffs Parkway, Canton. On Wednesday, the county is holding a Comprehensive Plan Update. The countywide public input meeting is set for 6 p.m. at the Woodstock Recreation Center, 7545 Main Street. (Cherokee County)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter would like us to remember the safety of our pets as hidden dangers emerge during the fall season. Keep your eyes peeled and your pets safe. Corn cobs can cause obstructions that can bring about life threatening situations and the need for emergency surgery. Mushrooms, mold, acorns, bulbs and some common plants can be poisonous to our much-loved pets. Rats and mice like to come indoors to keep warm in the fall, please don't use poison as a method of control, our pets can find it just as irresistible to eat as rodents do. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County Domestic Violence Task Force and the Cherokee Family Violence Center (CFVC) are holding the 2022 Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday, October 18, at the gazebo in Cannon Park, 130 East Main Street, Canton. The vigil begins at 6 p.m. with guest speakers and a guest musician that will play as the names of 161 people from our state that lost their lives last year due to domestic violence are read aloud. You can read more about the annual vigil, the CFVC and ways you can get involved here. (Enjoy Cherokee)
