Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. This September and October, several drive-through flu shot clinics will be open in North Georgia. The clinics are for residents 18 and up and will offer the four-in-one flu vaccine. High-dose flu vaccines will be available for those ages 65 and up. Many insurance plans cover the shot, and for those without insurance, the cost is $25 for the normal vaccine and $65 for the high-dose vaccine. The Cherokee clinic will be on October 4, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Woodstock Health Center on North Main Street. (North Georgia Health District)
  2. Also from the North Georgia Health District, monkeypox testing and vaccines are available for eligible residents 18 and up, by appointment only. Eligibility guidelines are posted online, and online registration is now available. (North Georgia Health District)
  3. The Woodstock Police Department is hiring! The accreditation and compliance coordinator position is full-time and is in place to ensure the department's compliance with state certification standards as applicable to the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police and the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies. The position will also manage and prepare crime data to be reported to the GBI. Please see the listing for this position and other city jobs online. (Woodstock PD via Facebook)
  4. Ashley Chambers, one of the amazing teachers at Carmel Elementary School, has been highlighted in the Cherokee County School District's "Meet the Teacher" campaign. Every week, CCSD posts a question-and-answer session with one of the district teachers. Chambers, in the Q&A, discusses her use of Minecraft Education to help engage students and steps that parents can take to help their children succeed in school. Chambers states that "being aware of what your child is learning and then talking to them about it" is a wonderful way to become involved and keep children learning even outside of the classroom. Reading with your child is always a great way to keep their creativity and knowledge growing. (CCSD Press Release)
