Driver Killed In Crash On I-75 In Cherokee County

The driver of a tractor trailer veered off the interstate and crashed into the Ga. 92 bridge Tuesday morning, the Sheriff's Office said.

ACWORTH, GA — The driver of a tractor trailer died Tuesday morning in an accident on Interstate 75 in Cherokee County.

Deputies with the Cherokee Sheriff's Office responded to the accident around 7:10 a.m. Nov. 20 on the northbound side at Ga. 92 near Acworth. A preliminary investigation shows the steel-hauling tractor-trailer was traveling northbound when it left the road just north of the Ga. 92 exit ramp.

The truck traveled about 600 feet in the grass before colliding with and coming to rest under the Highway 92 bridge, said Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jay Baker. The driver of the tractor-trailer was pronounced dead on scene, and his identity has not been released at this time.

Baker said the driver does not live in the metro Atlanta area, and officials are trying to notify his family. There were no passengers in the vehicle, and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office Traffic Enforcement Unit is investigating the crash.
