Elm Street Presents Disney's 'The Little Mermaid Jr.'

Elm Street Education Director Siobhan Brumbelow is directing.

Journey “under the sea” with Ariel and her aquatic friends in Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR., adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and the motion picture (featuring the enormously popular Academy Award-winning music and delightfully charming book and lyrics). Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, Disney’s The Little Mermaid JR. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance.

In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home – and her fins – behind and live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking. The show is full of lively tunes, including the famous ones from the movie and also some tunes written especially for the stage production.

Elm Street’s Education Director, Siobhan Brumbelow, is directing The Little Mermaid Jr.

“This show is spectacle oriented. The set and costumes are brightly colored, there are elements of surprise and invitations to use your imagination,” she says. “Some of the actors will be wearing Heelys and so they will be skating across the stage to help create the illusion of being under the sea.”

“The cast consists of some of our younger talent,” says Brumbelow. “The actors range from age 8 to 15, and each one has had previous experience and/or training at Elm Street. We are very excited to be able to showcase their skill to our Main Stage audience.”

The show runs November 11-13 at the Elm Street Main Stage. Tickets ($12 in advance and $15 Engaging Community with Relevant Art Experiences Every Day at the door) can be purchased at www.elmstreetarts.org. The show runs approximately 80 minutes, and there will be one intermission. There will be an opening night reception on November 11th, post show for all who attend.

In addition to performances at Elm Street, characters from the play will be participating in two community events. At 10:30 am on October 27th , they will be singing a few numbers from the show, and doing at Q&A at the Woodstock Public Library. On November 3 and 4, you might see some of the characters at the Character Tea at Tea Leaves and Thyme.
