- A flood warning has been issued for the Etowah River downstream of I-575 in Canton. The warning was issued on Tuesday afternoon as minor flooding was observed in the area. As of 2:45 p.m. on Tuesday, the flood stage was 17.5 feet and rising. At 18 feet, the National Weather Service (NWS) advised, minor flooding will begin to flow into the woodlands and fields along the river east of Canton near the I-575 bridge, the rock landing and grass lot behind the pump station by Riverstone Parkway, and behind businesses on Old Ball Ground Highway and Keith Drive. The NWS urges drivers not to pass through flood waters, as most flood-related fatalities happen inside vehicles. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- Cherokee County Senior Services' Adopt-A-Senior program brought in gift donations for around 300 local seniors this year. Senior Services Resource Coordinator Deanna Gale stated that all clients in the program were adopted, making this year's program the most successful yet. Each year, the program is organized by the Meals on Wheels staff. Way to go, Woodstock! (Cherokee County Press Release)
- The Canton City Council unanimously passed a pay raise for Canton police officers working security at events held on city property. Currently at $45 an hour, the officers will now be paid $65 an hour, bringing home $62 an hour after a small administration fee. The council also approved a request that officers be allowed to keep their current service pistols when the department moves over to Glock 45 pistols as part of an upgrade. - The Woodstock Public Safety Foundation is holding a Team Ezra event to help raise money for the King family as young Ezra continues his fight against cancer. On December 15, the Woodstock and Canton locations of Your Pie will be donating a percentage of all sales and 100% of all donations to the King family. Grab a bite and help a local family.
