🌱 Etowah Senior Commits to VA Tech + CCSD Hiring + Kid Biz Expo

Hello and good morning, Woodstock-Towne Lake! I'm here with the latest edition of the Woodstock-Towne Lake Daily to help catch you up on today's local news and upcoming events. Here's what's going on around town...

First, today's weather:

A couple of thunderstorms. High: 92 Low: 72.

Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

1. A local Etowah High School senior has committed to Virginia Tech to continue his basketball career. From a family full of renowned athletes, Brandon Rechstenier averaged 16.5 points and 4.5 assists last season for the Etowah Eagles. (BVM Sports)
2. The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) is looking for Special Education - Elementary School teachers for the 2022-2023 school year. Several positions are available. Join the CCSD family! (Press Release Desk )
3. A car rental that originated in Woodstock became a nightmare for a man that has never even been to this area. The case is highlighting the allegedly fraudulent billing practices of Hertz and the larger issues of stolen identities and erroneous police reports leading to arrests. In this case, the man was arrested while traveling through customs in the Denver airport with his family. In actuality, a stranger had stolen his identity and used it to rent a car at Hertz. (WTHR)
4. The Kid Biz Expo is coming to Woodstock Sunday at 1 p.m. The event will feature over 50 vendors that are owned by children. Empowered Youth Entrepreneurs, LLC, created the Kid Biz Expo to give children a path towards success. Through the 501(c)(3) organization, children participate in workshops that include inventory, budgeting, marketing and sales. (Kid Biz Expo)
5. There are some amazing animals available for adoption in the Woodstock-Towne Lake area. Over 6 million pets are surrendered each year to shelters and rescue organizations, and only about half of that amount are adopted. You can see some of the adoptable pets by clicking this link. • The Friends of the Cherokee County Public Libraries book sale is going on today and Saturday at the Hickory Flat Public Library. The sales starts at 10 a.m. both days. (10 a.m.)
• There is a ribbon cutting for Jéa Salon and Spa today. The business is located at 10971 Hwy 92 and offers services such as custom color and cuts, waxing, spa services and more. (11 a.m.)
• "Fun in the Sun" is today at J.B. Owens Park. The event will feature games, snacks and a story walk. (3 p.m.)
• The Woodstock Public Library is holding a "Mini Sea Lights" craft event for ages 10 and up. Participants will create underwater sea lights with glass jars and tissue paper. Supplies, refreshments and snacks will be provided. (4 p.m.)
• DJ Mason is on the Pure Taqueria rooftop tonight. (7 p.m.)
• Blue Ghost Arcade is holding its weekly Magic The Gathering Draft Tournament. (7 p.m.)
• iThink Improv at Woodstock Arts Theater is the place to go tonight for some Friday night laughs. (8 p.m.)
