Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- Woodstock Fire & Rescue, the Woodstock Police Department and Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services, responded to a commercial vehicle fire on Friday morning. Around 9 a.m., Fire & Rescue was called out for a semi-truck filled with burning garbage near exit 8 on I-575. Lanes were shut down quickly, and firefighters separated the truck and trailer. Once the fire was contained, the truck and trailer were reconnected and the vehicle was moved to Woodstock Parkway for firefighters to handling the smoldering trailer. The road was cleared and opened back up to traffic within 25 minutes. (Woodstock News Post)
- There's a fun scavenger hunt going on downtown, and you can win tickets to the Woodstock Arts production of "Every Brilliant Thing." The scavenger hunt is free, and will bring you and your family around the area looking for brilliant things. You can bring your photo of your brilliant thing to the Visitors Center on Main Street until January 15, take a selfie at the sticky note display and share it on social media with the tag "@woodstockartsga" to be entered into the contest. Some of the suggested ideas are spaghetti at IPPS, having dessert before dinner at Pie Bar and dancing in public, fearlessly. You can use one of the suggested ideas or make one of your own. - Canton now offers an SMS notification system that sends out text, email or voicemail messages about local street closures, traffic and more. Canton residents can choose from five groups - a General Communications group for city press releases, newsletters and important announcements; a Downtown Canton group for notifications about events, traffic and street closures; a Utilities Notifications group for updates on water main breaks, water conservation times and other service notices; a Parks and Rec group for notifications on new amenities, closures, traffic and parking and a Trash and Recycling group for trash collection hours, WastePro updates and recycling information. If interested, you can text your ZIP code to 38276 or visit the enrollment web page here. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
