Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- Williamson Brothers Bar-B-Q in Canton was damaged in a fire Sunday morning. Crews from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services (CCFES) were called out around 1 a.m. on Sunday and initially had some difficulty finding the center of the fire due in part to heavy smoke. After a thorough search, the center of the fire was located and it was confirmed there were no people inside the building. There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire is under investigation. (CCFES via Facebook)
- Another fire broke out in a county residence late Friday night on Hearthstone Drive. The two-story home sustained damage to the second story and attic, but was extinguished before further damage was done. Nobody was located inside the home, and no injuries were reported. The cause of this fire is also under investigation. (CCFES via Facebook)
- Cherokee Recreation & Parks is holding a Supper with Santa spaghetti dinner on December 2. If you and your family would like to attend, there are three time slots to choose from and each includes a reading of "The Night Before Christmas," cookie decorating, crafts, music, hot cocoa and desserts. The dinner time slots begin at 5, 6 and 7 p.m., and the 5 - 6 p.m. time slot is sensory-friendly, with a calmer environment. You can head to their website to register and read more about the event. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter posted a few pieces of advice for pet parents on their Facebook page. First, always clean your pets' food and water dishes - often. The slimy coating on the dishes is actually something called Biofilm, a collection of bacteria that can cause serious illnesses. Second, make sure your pets do not ever eat candy. Aside from the dangers of chocolate, many candies contain Xylitol. The sweetener is toxic to animals, and even a little bit can cause major harm. Xylitol is used in many sweets and food items, it will be listed on the packaging. And third, and this one is very important, if your pet loves wearing clothes and costumes, please dress them up and share pictures with everyone you know. It's adorable.
