Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter has added an extra bonus to its adoption event today. It waived adoption fees for all cats and kittens. The available cats will be ready to see starting at 10 a.m. today, you can see them online already here. The shelter adopts on a first come, first served basis, it can't put animals on hold. Adopted furry feline friends go home with their spay or neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative and microchipping already done, free of charge. There are several adorable kittens and cats on the available list this week. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- Wondering how your favorite scarecrow is doing in the contest? Downtown Woodstock has released the current top-10 standings on their Facebook page. Leading the pack is Pie Bar, followed by Lights Up! Entertainment and Mrs. Mason's Kindergarten Class. Southern Phoenix Services and Open Door Talk round out the top five in the list. If you'd like to see your favorite finish in the top 10, make sure to head over to the Visitors Center at 8588 Main Street to cast your vote before October 31. Votes are $1, and the Visitors Center is open Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. (Downtown Woodstock via Facebook)
- While we're on the subject of scarecrows, the Scarecrow Invasion Scavenger Hunt officially started up Friday! There is a scavenger hunt sheet to print out here. Solve all the clues and turn your sheet in at the Visitors Center during normal business hours, Monday - Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. You will have until October 31 to turn it in, all participating team members will get a cool WDSTK sticker, and all correct and complete scavenger hunt sheets turned in on time will be entered into a drawing for $100 Downtown Dollars. - Farm. Fresh. Market. is a great place to find lots of locally grown products, all in one spot. Today is Pumpkin Day at the market. While you're there, look out for pumpkin-themed sales and contests. The market is open every Saturday on Market Street in Downtown Woodstock. (8:30 - noon)
- Coffee with Other Veterans is a veteran-only gathering presented by the Cherokee Veterans Community. Jim Lindenmayer from the Cherokee County Homeless Veterans Program will be a guest speaker. Enjoy the free meeting that includes donuts and coffee. Please register for the event being held at First Baptist Church, 11905 Highway 92, Building "A" Chapel, Room A250 on the second floor. - Woodstock Fire & Rescue Open House hosts a live extrication and K-9 demonstrations, firefighter drills, fire truck displays, station tours, kids' hose line experience, free lunch, bounce houses and parking. The fire station is located at 225 Arnold Mill Road, free parking is at Allen Temple AME Church, 232 Arnold Mill Road. (10 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
- Discovering Tennis for Kids! For ages 6 - 15, equipment and a snack is provided to the class at Dupree Park Tennis Courts 1 and 2, 513 Neese Road. (10 - 11:30 a.m.)
- Randi Sonenshine Story Time & Book Signing In Person is at FoxTale Book Shoppe, 105 E. Main Street, Suite 138. (11 a.m.)
- Yoga at the Library is a free, hour-long session for all levels, age 17 and up. Please bring a mat to the Woodstock Library, 7735 Main Street. (11 a.m. - noon)
- Free Vision Screening: provided by The Woodstock Lions Club at the Rose Creek Library, 4476 Towne Lake Parkway. (11 a.m. - 1 p.m.)
- Tailgate with a Firefighter: brought to you by Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Safe Kids Cherokee County. Food, fire trucks, games, face painting, a Dress Like a Firefighter Costume Contest, a VIP section and more. All proceeds go towards funding fire safety education. The event will be held at The Mill on Etowah, 225 Reformation Parkway, Canton. (11 a.m. - 5 p.m.)

- The Woodstock Police Department is holding a Coffee with a Cop meet and greet on October 11 at Truett's Chick-Fil-A, 9728 Highway 92. The event will run from 9 - 10:30 a.m., head over to talk to the officers, ask questions or just nod in appreciation as you enjoy your coffee and breakfast. (Woodstock PD via Facebook)
- North GA Running Co. and Nothing Bundt Cakes will hold their Run Your Bundts Off 5K and Baby Bundt Run (for ages 10 and under) at Etowah River Park in Canton on October 22. The run is open to all and benefits WarAngel Farms, a Canton non-profit horse and donkey rescue and rehabilitator. Registration ends on October 22 at 9:30 a.m., there is also a virtual 5K run/walk option available. (Run Your Bundts Off)
