- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking for help in locating a girl missing out of Woodstock. Itzel Penaloza, a 16-year-old female, was last seen leaving a friend's house in Woodstock on November 17. The missing individual is described as a five-foot, 120 pound Hispanic female, and she was wearing a black sweatshirt and red pants when she went missing. If you have information about the incident or about Itzel Penaloza's whereabouts, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
- December 1 is World AIDS Day, a chance to unite worldwide in the fight against HIV, show support for those living with HIV and commemorate those who have died from an AIDS-related illness. To honor the day, the North Georgia Health District is offering free HIV testing on December 1, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. If you're interested, the location for testing near us will be The Living Bridge Center South, 130 Riverstone Terrace, Suite 102 in Canton. There will be goodie bags, t-shirts and treats for anyone that gets a test during the testing date. You can also order a free HIV self-test by following this link. (North Georgia Health District)
- Another area resident to cheer on, Hickory Flat native Grant Pfost is appearing as a lead in a movie released on November 15. Pfost, who graduated from Sequoyah High School, can be seen in the thriller "Most Horrible Things" on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes and on demand. The movie is rated R and was filmed in Marietta. - With family and friends in town this week, it's a great opportunity to shop local in support of our city's small business owners. This weekend, shops and restaurants around the downtown area will have Black Friday and Small Business Saturday specials going on. You can check out a list of participating shops here. Also, for every $10 you spend downtown, you'll get one contest entry to win a $100 Downtown Dollars Gift Certificate. Just bring your receipt to the Visitors Center when you're ready. - Please note: the libraries in the Sequoyah Regional Library System are closed this week. The libraries open back up again on Saturday. (SRLS)
