Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. The Service League of Cherokee County is accepting applications for Community Impact Grants. The Service League is awarding $30,000 in total and is looking for other local organizations that "work to remove barriers and enable children to grow, learn, and prosper..." If your idea or project is something you believe will help our local children, you can reach out via the Service League's website here. The deadline for applications is March 17, and the winners will be notified by March 28. The Service League is also currently accepting applications for their Service League Scholarship program. The scholarships are for local high school seniors and are awarded based on need, achievement and recommendations. You can read more about the program here, the application window closes on March 31.   2. The Cherokee Sheriff's Office is asking the public for help in identifying three people possibly involved in an shoplifting incident on January 10 in Acworth. The three were captured on camera in the CosmoProf store at 6199 Highway 92. If you recognize the three or have information about their whereabouts or the incident, please contact the Sheriff's Office at 770-928-0239 or 9-1-1 regarding Case #SO23-000456.   3. The winds and rain hit our area quite heavily yesterday, but the area as a whole seemed to escape major damage. Noted on the Sheriff's Facebook page, Highway 108 was shut down north of Mitchell Road into the early evening due to a downed tree and power lines.   • Cherokee County School District (CCSD) Certified Job Fair: the job fair will be held at River Ridge High School, please pre-register here. The district is looking for certified, full-time teachers. (9 a.m. - noon)
  • Electronic Recycling Drive: Simple Electronic Recycling is holding their drive at St. Michael the Archangel Roman Catholic Church, 490 Arnold Mill Road. They can except cell phones, laptops and desktops, monitors, keyboards, mice, cables and cords, printers and scanners, game systems, DVD's and Blue Ray discs, iPads, iPods, Kindles and tablets. Fees apply for TV's and microwaves, and they can't accept batteries, light bulbs, smoke and carbon monoxide detectors, thermostats or large appliances. (9:30 - 11:30 a.m.)
  • Sequoyah-Con: the mini-convention series starts today at the R.T. Jones Memorial Library, located at 116 Brown Industrial Parkway in Canton. This is a free, all-ages event and this week's event is Pokémon themed. There will be themed fandoms, panels, crafts, a scavenger hunt, trivia for adults, music, a costume contest and more.   • Cooking Camp Open House: check out Leaning Ladder's cooking camp, there will be light bites created by current campers, and you'll have a chance to meet the camp staff and the newest Georgia State Watermelon Queen. Camp registration starts online this Monday, Leaning Ladder is at 105 E. Main Street. (11 a.m. - 2 p.m.)
  • Georgia Beer Day: brought to you by Georgia Craft Brewers Guild (GCBG), it's Georgia Beer Day at Reformation Brewery. Get your limited edition glassware to bring home while supplies last - with $1 of each glass benefitting GCBG and member breweries. Reformation is at 105 Elm Street. (noon - 10 p.m.)
  • Lynn Cullen In-person Event: You can order a hand-signed copy of the author's book "The Woman with the Cure" online here. The meet and greet itself is free and will be held at FoxTale Book Shoppe, 105 E. Main Street, Suite 138. (1 - 3 p.m.)

  • Reminder: The Buzz, located at 7345 Cumming Highway in Canton, will not have Open Gym time blocks this weekend due to the CYB championship games. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
  • Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding their weekly adoption event today, and all pets 6 months and older are free to adopt. The available animals can be seen online here. A QR code at the front door of the shelter will become active at a random time around 10 a.m., please scan the QR code to enter the "virtual line." The shelter adopts on a first come, first served basis, and animals can't be put on hold. All animals will go home with their spay or neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, initial vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative and microchipping complete.   • The next Coffee with a Cop is happening at Circle of Friends Coffee Shop at The Circuit Café on Thursday. Officers from the Woodstock Police Department will be there from 8:30 - 10 a.m. for an informal meet and greet, the Café is located at 1 Innovation Way. (Woodstock PD via Facebook)
  • Nextdoor Neighbor, Magnolia Walk: "Someone's pet bunnies, a brown, and a all white bunny are sitting up by the street in front of a white truck at 310 N. Briar Ridge Rd. I saw a post earlier about the white bunny, but was unable to find it again. I just wanted to let whoever is looking for them know that they are sitting kind of under the white truck at 310 Briar Ridge. I hope they find their home soon." (Nextdoor)
