  1. Hasty Elementary Fine Arts Academy recognized Allison Hawkins as a 2022 Teacher of the Year. Hawkins, a graduate of the Cherokee County School District herself, is in her 11th year as an educator and is a Special Education facilitator. Real life, local experiences are used in her classes to further her students' confidence. Her students have written letters to local military personnel to tie in Veterans Day studies, designed their own bakery ideas to further their math studies and created lasting relationships with the Canton Police Department by forming teams of "reading buddies" with officers and students to help perfect reading skills. (CCSD Press Release)
  2. A racially motivated incident at a McDonalds in Cherokee County led to the arrest of a man in Acworth. David McConnell was charged with simple assault stemming from a verbal attack he made on a truck driver at the restaurant, hurling racial slurs and threats. The victim stated, "Instead of resulting to violence, the video can show my restraint and show there are other ways to handle the situation. I just want people to respect each other." McConnell was booked into the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  3. The Cherokee County Animal Shelter posted a great tip to help caregivers keep children and dogs safe. Keeping a safe space between dogs and children is important, as any dog has the potential to react aggressively when they feel cornered. Dogs should always have a clear escape route and should not be approached by a child when the dog is eating or drinking, has a toy or has self-isolated. Using a gate or a crate are two ways the shelter suggested to help create a safe space. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
