Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. Every spring and fall, the Healthy Kids Running Series (HKRS) gives area kids from ages 2 - 14 a chance to run in a series of races of varying lengths, based on the participant's age. The HKRS was created so that kids could become more active, feel accomplished by competing and recognition and to create a solid foundation for a healthy lifestyle. The first run of the fall series takes place at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Dupree Park. Registration is still open. Packet pickup is today at 10917 Highway 92, Suite 160, from 5:30 - 7:30 p.m. You can sign your child up for the series here. The Woodstock-specific web page is here, including a map of the races for different age groups. (Healthy Kids Running Series)
  2. Jaci Trapani and Sandi Roe, two employees of the Cherokee Sheriff's Office, were recognized for their victim advocacy work at the Domestic Violence Candlelight Vigil on Tuesday. The vigil takes place each October, scheduled to coincide with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, "in honor and memory of victims whose lives were lost to domestic violence, for those whose lives were shattered by domestic violence and for those who survive and light the way for others to do the same." (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
  3. The Woodstock Lions Club is holding a Sip and Paint event on Saturday at The Arbor at Bridgemill, 700 Freedom Boulevard in Canton. Paid entry includes all painting supplies and a complimentary glass of wine. The event is for ages 12 and up, children must be accompanied by an adult. Cheese, crackers and wine will be available for purchase. The paint and sip class will be headed up by local artist Scott McIntyre during three different time slots. Proceeds will be used to address our community's needs, such as programs and scholarships for high school seniors in our area, vision screening and glasses for children and adults in the community, food for those in need through local food pantries and more. You can register for the event here. (Woodstock Lions Club via Facebook)
  4. Cherokee County is under a Freeze Warning until 10 a.m. this morning. Bundle up, drip the faucets and keep the pets inside! (WSB-TV Atlanta)
