Here are the top four stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. Cherokee County senior Madeline Ambery placed fifth in the U.S. Technology Student Association (TSA) national competition after coming in first in the Georgia TSA competition. Ambery's competition entry was a children's book titled "The Adventures of Hopper and the Evil Space Cat." Ambery is a graphic design student in Woodstock High School's Career Pathway program and is currently completing an internship in the field. (CCSD Press Release)
  2. A three-year program to replace all Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus (SCBA) devices for Cherokee County Fire & Emergency is now complete. The program began with the first purchase round in February 2020, the next group was purchased in January 2021, and the remainder were purchased in 2022. There were 198 SCBAs replaced through the program in an effort to help improve safety for the firefighters in the county. (Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services Press Release)
  3. The 2022 Woodstock Scarecrow Invasion is open for registration on September 1 at 10 a.m. at the Visitor's Center on Main Street. You must register and pick your spot in person. Due to the potential lines, the Visitor's Center has advised that people arrive early. Proceeds from the Scarecrow Invasion will be used to help improve the downtown area.   4. Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services is hiring for full- and part-time positions. The entry-level recruit class begins in early spring of 2023, but certified firefighters, EMTs, AEMTs and paramedics can potentially enter the department's fast-track lateral program.     • Friday: "Art on the Spot" at the Reeves House welcomes Liz Groover Williams, Lee Jordan and Siobhan Brumbelow as they create art live to be raffled off at the end of the evening. (6 p.m.)
    • Friday: "Cry it Out" opens Friday. Suitable for ages 13 and up, there are showtimes this Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can purchase tickets online. (7:30 p.m.)
    • Saturday: At the Reeves House, "Creative Corner: Portrait Hacks" is a craft for teens and adults. Please see the website for event information and to register online. (10:30 a.m.)
    • Saturday: "Back to School Wine Tasting" at the Reeves House. Learn about the wines and how to pair them with the art on display. The exhibit "Home Grown: Artists from the Peach State" is closing the next day, so head over and catch it before it's gone. Please register online. (4 p.m.)
  • Sequoyah Library System:
    • Friday: "Great Georgia Pollinator Census" at Woodstock Library. A great opportunity to take part in the project created by the University of Georgia, it only takes 15 minutes. Pick up a counting sheet any time Friday or Saturday and head over to the new butterfly garden. (all day)
