Here are the top three stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. Ezra King, the son of Woodstock Police Officer Travis King, has been moved from the Intensive Care Unit after surgery on Wednesday to remove a brain tumor. Now in the neurological floor and stable, Ezra was moved partly to protect him from catching a respiratory illness from the other patients in the ICU. Originally diagnosed with brain cancer at 18 months, he has undergone chemotherapy and had to relearned motor skills throughout his life. The five-year-old was recently sworn in as a Junior Officer at the Woodstock PD. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Microsoft recognized 35 Cherokee County School District teachers and staff as Microsoft Innovative Educator Experts (MIEE). Microsoft created the designation to honor those deemed the best at understanding how technology can improve learning. CCSD Instructional Technology Specialist Merry Hofmeister was also named a Microsoft Innovative Educator Fellow, a designation given to only 33 educators in the country. It is the second year Hofmeister has received the designation. Out of 830 educators, support staff and school district leaders around the country recognized by Microsoft for the 2022-2023 class, the Cherokee County School District employs 35. (CCSD Press Release)
  3. The September edition of CCSD Connections was sent out this week, with a focus on college and career preparation. In the Superintendent's Message, several dates of importance include PSAT and SAT testing on October 12 and the 2022 Georgia Probe College Fair at Cherokee High School on October 24. Of note, pre-registration for the SAT is due by September 13. For those considering Career Pathways, it is suggested that families begin familiarizing and reading about the program and the requirements in the beginning of the child's eighth grade year.
