- Character.org has awarded Liberty Elementary School two Promising Practices awards. The national awards honor character education and service learning programs, and Liberty Elementary has received this honor several times in the last seven years. This year, the school received the award for its "Adopt a Grandparent for Valentine's Day" and "Friends Club - Adaptive PE Helpers" programs. The school was 1 of 152 schools honored nationwide, and 1 of 4 here in Georgia. (CCSD Press Release)
- Officer Poole of the Woodstock Police Department is being praised for his kind interactions with a young child after her mother was in a car accident. The officer made such a great impression, especially given the situation, that the child said she wants to be a police officer when she grows up. While the child's mother waited for a tow truck, Officer Poole sat and played games with her to keep her entertained. (WSB-TV)
- Ben Norton, a 2021 Lassiter High School graduate, has been named to the upcoming 2022-2023 Cleveland State Baseball roster. Norton, a Woodstock native, is one of twelve pitchers in the recruiting class. Also from Lassiter High School, Roswell native Parker Hughes is one of the four new outfielders. (The Chattanoogan)
- In a post made on its Facebook page, Copper Coin announced that it is closing on September 3. "We are heartbroken, but rising food costs and changing customer spending habits mean we simply cannot sign another five-year lease on this space. We have loved every minute of serving you, our customers and friends." Head down to the coffee shop before it closes. It will be missed. (Scoop OTP)

- Two heartworm-positive dogs are available for adoption at the Cherokee County Animal Shelter. The two will complete treatment at the shelter before coming home with you. The disease is preventable and affects over a million pets here in our country alone. You can learn more about heartworm on the Heartworm Society webpage. - A new batch of classes is starting up at Woodstock Arts. Make sure to check out the listing online, there are classes for all ages including improv, acting, Broadway, clay, painting and more. (Woodstock Arts)
- Reminder: Cherokee Senior Services is hosting a hot dog fundraiser on August 26 at the Senior Center on Univeter Road in Canton. The event to raise funds for the purchase of box fans and window AC units for local seniors in need will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A $5 donation gets you lunch with a hot dog, beans, chips, a drink and a dessert. you can dine in or take out. - The Sequoyah Regional Library System and Woodstock Parks and Recreation are hosting a new project, "Trail Story: The Hike,” for elementary-aged children and their families. As you walk the trails along Rubes Creek in Woodstock during August, there will be signs placed along one side of the creek with pages from the book. On the other side of the trail, will be QR codes you can scan to see a book review and some questions. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
