Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- A Canton woman has been arrested, suspected of concealing the death of another person and second-degree cruelty to children. At around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, an unnamed person walked into the Canton Police Department to report the death of a toddler. When police arrived at the home on Hearthstone Landing Drive, they located the deceased child and arrested a 40-year-old woman. At this time, the identity of the child and the relationship between the suspect and victim are unknown and the investigation is ongoing. If you have any information about the incident, please contact the Canton PD at 770-720-4883. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter and the ASPCA want to remind pet owners about some of the dangers our furry ones can get into during the winter season. Pets can't decipher most poisons, especially those that taste sweet or savory, so it's up to us pet parents to keep these dangers out of reach. Antifreeze tastes great to animals, but it can cause kidney damage if ingested. Poinsettias are a danger as well, along with hand and foot warmers. Sidewalk salt is easy to forget about, but since our pets don't usually wear shoes, make sure to clean off their feet if they've been outside. Fire starter logs when eaten can cause an obstruction or perforation that can be life threatening. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- There's a Red Cross Lifeguard Training coming up later this month at the Cherokee Aquatic Center. The class will take place from December 28 - 30, and you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard/First Aid/CPR for Professional Rescuer certification. The class will take place both online and in person, the online portion must be completed prior to the in-person class. Attendees must be 15 years and up, be able to swim 300 yards continuously, tread water for two minutes with only legs, and retrieve a 10-pound brick from seven feet of water. You can read more about the class and register here. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks via Facebook)
