Here are the top three stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- A fire in Cherokee County took longer and was more difficult than usual to extinguish due to the location of the nearest fire hydrant. The home on Fletcher Drive in Ball Ground was fully engulfed in flames when crews from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services and the Cherokee Sheriff's Office arrived on Saturday evening, but when fire hydrants weren't close enough, firefighters had to shuttle water to the scene using several trucks. One resident was injured in the fire but was not taken to the hospital. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. (11 Alive and Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services)
- Remains found in Canton are the third found in the same area within months. The site of the discovery last week near the Etowah River is in the same vicinity of Reformation Parkway and Waleska Street where the body of a homicide victim was found in late June. In July, a drowning took the life of a man found in the river near Brown Street, north of Waleska Street. Though the three deaths appear unrelated, the most recent cause is undetermined at this time. (11 Alive)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter and the ASPCA want to remind us of ways to keep our pets safe this holiday season. There are actually quite a few dangerous food items that aren't fit for our pets. Items in the list include chocolate, sugar-free candies, gum and baked goods containing xylitol, raisins and grapes, turkey and ham bones, alcoholic beverages, raw bread dough, onions and garlic.
