Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:

  1. There's going to be a new exhibit at the Reeves House Visual Arts Center soon. The opening night reception is Thursday. The pieces in the free exhibit are made with unconventional materials, and though they are hung on the wall, they exist in the third dimension with the viewer. The opening reception starts at 6 p.m. The Reeves House Visual Arts Center is located at 734 Reeves Street. (Woodstock Arts)
  2. If you've been looking for a volunteer opportunity around town, Cherokee Recreation & Parks is holding a Volunteer Trail Clean-up and Maintenance day on Saturday. You can help keep our parks beautiful, and it's a great opportunity for all ages. The organizers will provide tools, but you can also bring yours if you'd like. Please reach out to Adam Fussell with any questions at cafussell@cherokeega.com. The clean-up day runs from 9 a.m. - noon, and the park getting a cleaning will be announced as we get closer.   3. The Brown Bag Concert Series is back, and the first show is Thursday. I can't think of a better way to spend an afternoon. For this concert series, the artists will be set up for a live, acoustic performance in the Gazebo in the Park at City Center, and the concerts are all an hour long, starting at noon. The first show is Danielle McLean. Pack a lunch, grab a blanket or folding chair and enjoy the music - the fun starts at noon. (Woodstock Parks and Recreation)
  4. Hot Wheels Skate Center is holding its May Stroll and Roll and Homeschool Skate Friday. The Stroll and Roll starts at 10 a.m. and it's for kids ages 5 and under. Admission includes a dance party, time on the playground and a craft. Ride-along toys are allowed, but pedal bikes and motorized vehicles are not.   • Community Yoga: the free class is open to all fitness levels and takes place every Monday morning and Tuesday evening. Please bring your own mat. You can sign up at the link for the class at The WREC, 7545 Main Street, Building 200. (10 - 11 a.m.)
  • Farm Bureau Storytime - I Love Vegetables: for children of all ages, though children must be accompanied by an adult. Learn about plants and vegetables during the special storytime at the Rose Creek Library, 4476 Towne Lake Parkway. (11 a.m. - noon)
  • Shut Up & Write! Cherokee County / Woodstock: join the Meetup group for an hour of writing, surrounded by writers. Quick introductions at 6 p.m., writing starts at 6:15, and when the end of the session comes at 7:15, you can hang around to chat, keep on writing or you can head out.   • Hot Vinyasa: all levels are welcome, though some prior experience is helpful to the class held at Ember Hot Yoga, 330 Chambers Street. (6:30 - 7:45 p.m.)
  • Joshilyn Jackson In-person Event: the meet and greet itself is free and doesn't require a registration, but you can order a hand-signed copy of the author's book "With My Little Eye" online here to be picked up at the shop or shipped to you. The event will be held at FoxTale Book Shoppe, 105 E. Main Street, Suite 138. (6:30 - 8 p.m.)
  • Trivia Night with Lights Up! Entertainment: every Monday at Truck & Tap, 8640 Main Street. (7:30 - 10 p.m.)
  • DJ Trivia: the top three teams win cash prizes, every Monday at Guston's Grille, 12195 Highway 92, Suite 156. (7:30 - 10:30 p.m.)
  • Star Wars Trivia: compete for prizes solo or with your stormtroopers at The Blue Ghost Arcade, 164 Towne Lake Parkway. (8 p.m.)

  • The libraries in the Sequoyah Regional Library System will be closed on Wednesday, May 3, for staff training. This includes the libraries in our immediate area - Woodstock Library, Rose Creek Library and R.T. Jones Memorial Library. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
  • There's a new mortgage company in town! MortgageRight is holding its grand opening on Thursday, from 3 - 3:30 p.m. Their new location in town is 127 E. Main Street, Suite 401. Welcome to Woodstock, MortgageRight! (IN WDSTK)
  • Slay the Arcade is back at The Blue Ghost Arcade on Thursday, and this time around, the evening is Star Wars themed.   • The Woodstock Library is hosting a Local Author Market Saturday, from 10:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. You can visit local authors at their tables set up around the library, and the marketplace will also host an authors' panel. The library address is 7735 Main Street. (SRLS Calendar of Events)

    • Tuesday and Thursday: +55 Trail Walkers - for those 55 and up that can walk a minimum of one mile on a paved trail. Head out to socialize and get some exercise every Tuesday and Thursday, the walking will alternate between the Noonday Creek, Rubes Creek, Towne Lake Pass and Trestle Rock trails. (9 - 10 a.m.)
    • Tuesday and Thursday: Big Stage Yoga - for ages 16 and up and all skill levels, though children under 16 may attend with a consenting adult. The class led by Amy Kenny will meet on the Amphitheater stage downtown every Tuesday and Thursday in May. (6:30 - 7:30 p.m.)
    • Wednesday: Discovering Pickleball - for those 18 and up, learn the basics of the game. All equipment will be provided for the lesson at the Dupree Park Pickleball courts, 513 Neese Road. (7:30 - 8:45 p.m.)
    • Thursday: SKILLS, First Aid - great for teens and adults and hosted by the Woodstock Fire Department and Woodstock Parks and Recreation, the class will teach you basic, practical first aid. (6:30 - 7:45 p.m.)
    • Saturday: Discovering Yoga - for those 16 and up and all skill levels, though children under 16 may attend with a consenting adult. The class will meet on the stage of the Northside Hospital-Cherokee Amphitheater, where you'll learn the basics of yoga. All equipment will be provided, but if you do have a mat, please bring it with you. (10 - 11 a.m.)
  • Woodstock Arts
    • Friday, Saturday and Sunday: The Legend of Georgia McBride - it's closing weekend, be sure to catch a performance before the play is gone. Recommended for those 16 and older, performed at Woodstock Arts Theatre, 8534 Main Street. (Various Times)
    • Saturday: Ngaiire - the artist is playing as part of the Lantern Series on the Event Green downtown. The musical sound is described as "R&B, future soul," you can check out the music here. (7:30 p.m.)
  • Sequoyah Regional Library System
    • Thursday: Star Wars Nerf Night - for ages 6 and up, bring your Nerf equipment to the library for a night of games, target practice and more. Children must be accompanied by an adult, you can register here for the event at the Woodstock Library, 7735 Main Street. (5:30 - 7:30 p.m.)

    • Thursday: YPOW AM - join the Young Professionals of Woodstock every Thursday morning for coffee, networking and an informal chat with a local leader at The Circuit, 1 Innovation Way. (7:30 - 8:30 a.m.)

    • Wednesday: The Cherokee Office of Economic Development (COED) Presents Fresh Start Mornings - give and receive feedback, learn and make connections with other local entrepreneurs.     • Wednesday: May Sip and Paint Class - enjoy a nice painting session with Madison O'Brien Art at Tavern at Towne Lake, 1003 Towne Lake Hills East. (7 p.m.)
    • Friday: Friday Flow Yoga - join instructor Melanie Pineda for an outdoor class at Trefoil Gardens, walk-ins are welcome. Proceeds go to food access initiatives in the community. The class will meet on the deck at the Kingsridge CoOp Meeting Space, 120 Bascomb Drive. (12:30 p.m.)
    • Saturday: Seis de Mayo Pub Crawl - enjoy food and drink specials at restaurants and bars in the downtown area, prizes, live music and much more.
