Here are the top four stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- Newt Gingrich will be at FoxTale Book Shoppe on Main Street with his book "Defeating Big Government Socialism." The meet and greet will be held on July 29 at 4 p.m., tickets can be purchased online. The former House Speaker will speak briefly, personalize book signings and sit for photos as time permits. - The Service League of Cherokee County is accepting applications for the Riverfest Scarecrows. The scarecrows will be displayed at Riverfest and in downtown Canton through October and awards will be given in several categories. (The Service League of Cherokee County via Facebook)
- Cherokee County School District (CCSD) has spotlighted two great achievements: Suzy Griffies has been named as a 2022 Volunteer of the Year for her work with Dean Rusk Middle School and Corporal Beth Buffkin has been recognized for serving 20 years with the CCSD Police and is the longest-serving officer in the department. - The Young Professionals of Woodstock (YPOW) meets this morning, and every Thursday, for its YPOW AM networking event at The Circuit. (7:30 a.m.)
- There is a grand opening today through Sunday for Once Upon a Child in Canton. The first 100 people will receive a free goodie bag. Please see the website for a schedule of events. (10 a.m.)
- Family Storytime is at the Hickory Flat Public Library today. The event is for all ages and will include stories, songs, dancing, a craft and more. (2:30 p.m.)
- The Friends of the Cherokee County Public Libraries preview sale is happening today for members, you can join at the door if you aren't a member already. Hickory Flat Public Library (3 p.m.)
- Family Fun Night in Woodstock is tonight! Head down for a Harry Potter-themed night. Tons of activities and treats will be offered by the shops and restaurants downtown. (5 p.m.)
- The Woodstock Public Library is holding a Teen Board Game Night tonight. The event is open for all teens in 6th - 12th grade and all games are provided. (6:00 p.m.)
- Tonight at Made Mercantile, Cherokee Rose Candle Company will be holding a "Pick & Pour" event. Pick your candle vessel and pour your candle with a custom candle scent. A drink and dessert will be offered for participants. Ages 13 and up. (7 p.m.)
- Blue Ghost Arcade is holding its Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tournament today. Registration is open today for the double elimination tournament. (8 p.m.)
