Here are the top stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:

  1. The City of Woodstock is offering citizens a chance to be heard on the direction and vision of future public art in town. The mural along Mill Street, the shipping container restrooms, the wings on Wall Street and the mosaic guitar on The Green downtown have all been vibrant and beautiful additions, perfectly encompassing the city's art-forward approach to the downtown area. If you'd like a voice in the city's Public Art Plan, the survey is here, you can tell the city where you'd like to see more art, what themes you'd like to see explored, what you definitely don't want to see and what you do. You can see the timeline and other project details on survey webpage. (Woodstock News Post)
  2. The R.T. Jones Memorial Library is hosting the Cherokee County Farm Bureau in a talk this Friday about the plants that naturally grow in our area. The presentation, "Native Plants 101," will cover the different native plants in our area and how to spot them around the city. After the presentation, the library will be discussing their "Cherokee BioBlitz" challenge. Project participants will document the different wild plants and animals they encounter to help the library system create a map illustrating our area's biodiversity. The project will run from June 1-31, you can learn more about it here. (Sequoyah Regional Library System)
  3. Woodstock Arts has a new play coming up for all ages, and this one sends a great message of friendship to kids. The play, "A Year with Frog and Toad," follows the recently hibernating Frog and Toad as they embark on various adventures, learning lessons as they go. The duo identifies and celebrates their differences as they honor their unique beingness. The play starts up on June 7 at the Woodstock Arts Theatre, and there's a sensory friendly performance on June 10 at 10 a.m. The theater address is 8534 Main St., you can grab your tickets at the link. (Woodstock Arts)
  4. Woodstock Parks and Recreation has put together a packed summer for us all, from festivals to classes and everything in between. If an outdoor yoga class in Downtown Woodstock sounds good to you, Big Stage Yoga will be meeting every Tuesday, starting on June 6 at 6:30 p.m. The next in the SKILLS series, SKILLS - Automotive, is on June 8 and will teach the basic skills needed to handle mechanical issues while on the road. You'll learn to check tire pressure, jump a battery and change a tire, as well as the correct way to handle a roadside emergency. You can see the full catalog at the link.
