  1. There is a vacancy on the Planning Commission for Ward 5. If you want to get more involved in your local government and live in Ward 5, you may fill out the application online. Citizen-based boards are a great way to help make decisions for Woodstock, and many of the boards, committees, commissions and volunteer opportunities don't take up much time, meeting only once a month. (Woodstock Government)
  2. Boston Elementary School and Little River Elementary School were both named winners of the National PTA School of Excellence award this week. The award celebrates partnerships between the local PTAs and schools that best serve the community. The honor will stand for two years and will be celebrated with a banner at each school. River Ridge and Woodstock High School have held the honor since the last award period. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
  3. We are already ankle-deep in the first week of school. Sometimes it's difficult to keep the kids engaged after the summer break, but our library system has great family events, ways to help with homework and even computers and internet access. The libraries hold game nights, story time, music, movies, crafts, bingo and sensory programs, just to name a few. Anyone with a library card can take free classes, take practice driving tests and much more. Your children can get a library card through their school, and Chromebooks and Wi-Fi hot spots can now be checked out of the library. (Around Woodstock Magazine)
