- Woodstock Arts is holding auditions for the play "Airness" on Monday. Auditions are for those 18 and up and will be held in person from 6 to 9:30 p.m. at the Woodstock Arts Theatre, but video audition submissions will be accepted until Wednesday at 9 p.m. The comedic play features a main character figuring out how to actually feel the rock music she "plays" through her "air guitar," instead of just performing, so auditions will include a minute of air guitar performed to whatever song you'd like. Please see important audition and rehearsal information at the link. (Woodstock Arts)
- Next Friday, the Woodstock PD will be at Dunkin' to raise funds for the Special Olympics. Officers around the state will be on hand at participating Dunkin' locations to accept donations, including the Woodstock locations at 9755 Highway 92 and 875 Towne Lake Parkway. Also, everyone that buys a drink will get one free doughnut in celebration of National Donut Day. This Cops on Donut Shops fundraiser runs from 6-11 a.m. on June 2. (Woodstock PD via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County court system is getting a $1.2 million audio/visual makeover. Upgrades to courtroom equipment will be made throughout Blue Ridge Judicial Circuit, the funding was awarded by the Judicial Council of Georgia via the federal American Rescue Plan Act, the full amount released was $1.3 million. After the equipment in all courtrooms has been replaced, what's left will go to pay senior judges that are brought in to hear cases and other costs like court reporters and bailiffs. - Don't forget, the newsletter will no longer be sent out on Monday mornings. The weekly event look ahead are now on Tuesday mornings. Have a great weekend, everyone!
- Today is the last day of graduation ceremonies at the First Baptist Church in Woodstock. Traffic will be heavy surrounding the church during portions of the morning and afternoon, and because there are activities taking place at the church before and after each of the ceremonies, the slowdown may start more than an hour prior to each. Congratulations to the graduating students from Creekview and Etowah high schools — those ceremonies will start at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. today, respectively. (CCSD News)
- If it gets hot this weekend, the Oasis at the Cherokee County Aquatic Center is opening up today. The outdoor pool has a water playground, two water slides and lots of fun features for the tiny kids, along with pavilions, family restrooms, locker rooms and cabana rentals. You can pay the entry fee when you get there or get season passes for the family. The hours are 10 a.m.-7 p.m. daily, except on Sundays, when it will be open from noon-5 p.m. (Cherokee Recreation & Parks)
- If you haven't quite figured out which Memorial Day ceremony you'd like to attend, there are a few going on in our area. The Georgia National Cemetery in Canton will start their ceremony at 9 a.m. on Saturday at the cemetery assembly area in the cemetery. Cherokee County Scout Troop 625 is hosting a Memorial Day Flag Retirement Ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sunday at Little River Methodist Church in Woodstock, and the City of Woodstock is holding a Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday at The Park at City Center starting at 9:30 a.m. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding its regular Saturday adoption event today. The available animals can be seen online here. Please follow the instructions found at the link for getting into the "virtual line." Adoption hours are 10 a.m.-5 p.m., and the shelter is located at 1015 Univeter Road in Canton. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- The Cherokee Sheriff's Office posted an important Memorial Day weekend reminder: City and county officers are out there in abundance this weekend, but they can't be everywhere all at once. Keep everyone safe, including yourself, buckle that seatbelt, don't drive impaired, don't text and please slow down. (Cherokee Sheriff's Office via Facebook)
