River Ridge Student Who Brought Gun To School Detained

Cherokee County School officials say they are taking matters seriously after a student brought a handgun to school Friday.

WOODSTOCK, GA — A River Ridge High School student was taken into police custody after having a handgun on campus Friday, according to Cherokee County school officials.

The discovery of the gun was made early morning, according to a message to parents obtained by Patch.

Cherokee County School District Police took the unnamed student into custody without incident.

"This is a serious violation and will be met with consequences from the school and law enforcement," school officials said in the parent notice. "...We take threats to the safety and security of our students, staff, and schools very seriously."

School operations were not interrupted, school officials said. It was not immediately known if the student faces charges.
