- There was a large fire at the recycling facility off Dixie Drive near Highway 92 on Monday. Cherokee County Fire and Emergency Services and Woodstock Fire & Rescue responded to and extinguished the fire, using about 6,000 gallons of water, 4 fire engines, 1 aerial truck and additional units from Woodstock Fire & Rescue to do so. There were no injuries reported. (MSN)
- The ninth annual Run, Walk, or Roll 5K will take place on October 1 at 8 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Woodstock, 11905 Highway 92. The funds raised at the event hosted by Next Step Ministries will help "serve individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities" as stated by Leigh Johnson, the community engagement manager. Registration for the 5K starts at 7 a.m. on October 1, participants will receive a free t-shirt and participation medal. Vendors, a DJ and sponsors will also be at the event. - Cherokee County 911 has brought a dog into their fold to help improve the work environment at the 911 dispatch center. After employees suggested bringing a pup friend in for a visit several times over the last year, Cherokee County 911 Director Shane Bonebreak saw the answer present itself when the local animal shelter brought Ruby in. Ruby instantly felt right at home at the 24/7 center, and the dispatchers received some much-needed support from their new member. At times when calls get stressful or when a dispatcher needs a break outside, Ruby is right there to help. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
