Riverwood Girl Scouts Bring Holiday Cheer to Benton House Senior Living

Local Girl Scouts spent Saturday caroling and sharing sweet treats and memories with residents at a local senior living facility.

More than twenty Girl Scouts from across the Riverwood Service Unit came together on Saturday for the annual Senior Center SingFest, a community outreach event organized by the Riverwood Girl Advisory Board, led by Brandy Sherrane and Cara Armour. The event took place at Benton House Senior Living in Woodstock and brought together girls from multiple local troops, including Troops 21708, 22055, 25212, 19424, 25067, and 22362.

During the visit, the Scouts sang Christmas carols, shared cookies, and delivered handmade ornaments created especially for the residents. After the musical program, the girls spent time speaking with residents about their families, holiday memories, and hopes for the season. Residents’ wishes were heartfelt and simple—most centered around happiness for their families and spending meaningful time with loved ones.

Members of the Girl Advisory Board also took time to ask residents about small wish-list items they might need or enjoy. The girls plan to return later this season with many of these needs met, using funds they have earned through their own efforts.

The SingFest event has become a cherished tradition in the Riverwood community, offering Scouts the opportunity to practice leadership, compassion, and service while building intergenerational connections. This year’s participants once again demonstrated the spirit of Girl Scouting—bringing joy, kindness, and a sense of community to local seniors.
