  4. The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) introduced two members of the CCSD family to the public this week. Through their ongoing series Meet the Police Officer, Tyler Thomas of Freedom Middle School was in the spotlight this week. Officer Thomas has been in law enforcement for eight years so far and joined the CCSD Police Department this year. Previously, he served with the Atlanta Police Department. His safety advice to parents was "If you see something, please say something." The second CCSD posting was to recognize a 2022 Volunteer of the Year. Mark Lucas of Sequoyah High School was involved in the football program at the school for almost ten years. The school principal said of Lucas "he was always looking to do what was best for our kids." (CCSD Press Release)
  5. Indian Knoll Elementary School has been named a Microsoft Showcase School for the second year in a row for its use of educational technology to benefit students and teachers. There were 43 schools recognized in the country and two of those schools are in Georgia. As a Showcase School, Indian Knoll receives additional Microsoft resources and support. The Vice President of Worldwide Education at Microsoft Rick Herrmann made the statement "Indian Knoll Elementary School is part of an elite group of schools that exemplify the best of teaching and learning in the world today. Its teachers and staff are pioneers in education." (CCSD Press Release)
  6. The Woodstock Public Safety Foundation is donating the proceeds from the upcoming WPSF golf tournament to the family of Ezra King, who has been battling cancer since for almost five years. The proceeds from the tournament on October 6 will go to help the King family with bills and future treatment and will feature a Jurassic Park themed 18th hole, designed for Ezra's love of dinosaurs. About 130 players registered for the tournament. The foundation has also set up an event, Car Show for Ezra King, for October 29 at the First Baptist Church of Woodstock to bring in funds for the family.
