Here are the top five stories in Woodstock-Towne Lake today:
- The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office is searching for a man that went missing on Bells Ferry Road on Tuesday. Robert Dwayne O'Hara, 56, was last seen near Goodwill wearing a black t-shirt, camouflage shorts and flip-flops. O'Hara is 5-foot-11, weighs approximately 240 pounds and has white hair, a white beard and brown eyes. Please call 911 if you see the missing man. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- Cherokee County deputies are also looking for a group of people involved in a burglary that took place Saturday on Brookfield Circle. Three people were captured on camera as well as a female driver in a grey Toyota minivan. The sheriff's office is asking that anyone with information call Detective Lyvers with the Criminal Investigation Division at 678-493-4138. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- After being seriously injured in a car accident in June, a local 6-year-old is slowly recovering after several surgeries and a stay in a rehabilitation hospital. The young boy suffered skull, facial and hip fractures in the accident but is now walking and making improvements. The child's school, Primrose School of Sixes Road, organized a bake sale that brought in over $1,000 to put towards his medical expenses. A GoFundMe campaign was also started and has brought in over $35,000 to date. (WSB-TV)
- A local Woodstock man was arrested Tuesday on nine counts of sexual exploitation of children. Paul Douglas Johnson, 72, was arrested after the GBI received a tip regarding the suspect’s online activity. The investigation is headed by the GBI Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force, which was created by the U.S. Department of Justice to handle the growing amount of internet crimes against children. The GBI asks that anyone with information regarding child exploitation contact the Child Exploitation Unit at 404-270-8870 or via the GBI website. Anonymous tips can also be made by calling 800-597-TIPS(8477). (GBI Press Release)
- The City of Woodstock has issued a warning to use caution at the Towne Lake Parkway - Mill Street intersection. As part of the roundabout construction, the travel lanes have been shifted, and the soft right turn onto Mill Street has been removed. The speed limit is set at 25 MPH. - The Cherokee County Public Services Agency is hosting an upcoming food drive on August 13 at 150 Chattin Drive in Canton. The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but the county is also accepting items at several drop-off locations during normal business hours until August 12.
