'Soaking Wet' Car Thief Arrested In Towne Lake: Sheriff

Authorities say they got a call about someone entering a car, and caught him as he was leaving the neighborhood.

TOWNE LAKE, GA — Cherokee sheriff's deputies got a call about an "entering auto" in progress in the Mirramont subdivision in the Towne Lake area early Friday morning, according to a release, leading to an arrest.

Around 2:30 a.m., the caller gave authorities a description of a suspect and the vehicle he was driving, police say. Soon after, deputies arrived and stopped the car as he was leaving, the release says.

Police say they found Anthony Lewis, 25, of Lawrenceville, driving the car. He said he had just left his girlfriend's house.

The release says Lewis was soaking wet and breathing hard, and that his clothing matched the description given by the 911 caller.

In the car, deputies found cannabis, a computer, cellphones and a woman's wallet.

Lewis was arrested on charges of possession of marijuana (less than one ounce) and entering an automobile. He was booked at the Cherokee Adult Detention Center on a $5,875 bond.

Authorities are trying to locate the owners of the property in the car.
