Tea Party Thanks Cherokee Officials

Twenty-One percent of the country claims to be liberal and 40 percent identify themselves as conservative. That said, why is it that our courts, our schools, our media and our laws (no 10 commandments at city halls) are liberal?

It's because liberals are organized, vocal and most importantly, involved. They know that government belongs to those who show up.

And right now, here in Cherokee County the PTA, the teachers union, the and the liberal members of the school board are most likely all flooding our delegation with calls, faxes and emails to not vote for the redistricting proposal they put forth. 

If that is all our delegation hears, how can you expect them to vote against all this vocal opposition?

As one board member is quoted as saying “They do have a chance to reconsider their action and change what they are doing. I would strongly urge them to consider doing so.”  And as 912 leader Jack Staver warned us conseratives, don’t let up, “it’s not law until the governor signs it.”

Eighty percent Cherokee County voters vote conservative in every election. Most conservatives I talk to approve of the changes made by our delegation. And while almost all of those on the left are against it (that should tell you something right there) the fact is there are two sides to this story. The few conservatives I know who like voting for two county commissioners and the chairman feel they can have a vote for three of the five commission posts, which gives them more influence. And the same is true for county wide voting for school board members. 

But the fact of the matter is, our present system is an incumbent protection plan. As an example, let’s take the school board. If someone wanted to challenge an incumbent, they would have to build (from scratch) an organization county wide to defeat the incumbent. Whereas, the incumbent not only has built an organization, they can count on the following groups to work for them; PTA members and school employees that live in every corner of the county, and the teachers union (it’s called a teachers association, but if it walks like a duck, and squawks like a duck…it’s a duck)

If you question that, just think back to the charter school vote at Cherokee H.S. Of the 800 people who were there, 70 percent were turned out by “the system” to protect “the system”.

The following are the names and contact information of our courageous delegation who went way out on a limb, bucking the teachers union, the school system, the PTA, four of the seven school board members and judging from the puff pieces in the local newspapers, about the left leaning members of the school board, they took on the press as well.
