Volunteers Renovate Cherokee Outdoor YMCA

Nearly 60 volunteers came together to make improvements to bunk houses at the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA.

WOODSTOCK, GA — Nearly 60 volunteers came together last week to make improvements to the Cardwell Manor at the Cherokee Outdoor YMCA for the YMCA's Days of Service event. The days of service were held Friday, Sept. 14 and Saturday, Sept. 15.

Volunteers for the Cherokee Outdoor Painting Project included students from Woodstock High School's Interact Club, Home Depot and members and non-members of the YMCA. Volunteers worked through the sweltering heat to complete tasks such as replacing outdated sliding, re-painting lodge exteriors, pruning and cleaning shrubbery, spreading mulch, building benches, and painting fencing.

Breakfast and lunch was provided by Tasty’s Doughnuts as well as Chick-fil-A, who provided complimentary food at the Cherokee Outdoor Y in September 2017 when Hurricane Irma evacuees sheltered there. The branch usually serves as a space for summer camp, outdoor fitness, and corporate retreats.
