  1. It's time to vote for your favorite scarecrow! Head over to the visitors center at 8588 Main Street Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. to vote. Businesses with scarecrows on display may even have voting set up in their place of business. Votes are $1 each, and the proceeds from the Scarecrow Invasion will be donated to INSeason, the IN WDSTK design committee that creates and implements design initiatives in the downtown area like the annual downtown holiday decorations.   2. The Holly Springs Police Department is looking for help in identifying a suspect involved in a hit and run. The department has posted a picture of the suspect on their Facebook page. The accident took place around 2:30 p.m. on Monday, September 26. The suspect was driving a stolen truck at the time and was involved in an accident at the intersection of Holly Springs Parkway and Palm Street in Holly Springs. He fled the scene on foot.   3. The Cherokee County School District (CCSD) posted a "Pathway Profiles" news item about their welding Career Pathway high school program. Welding is one of the 38 Pathway programs in the district, programs that help children explore different careers before graduating. The welding program is offered at Cherokee High School and Creekview High School, graduates of the long-standing Cherokee HS program have regularly been hired by local companies after they graduate. The classes in the welding Pathway include industry fundamentals, occupational safety and introduction to metals and welding. Through the Pathway, students can also earn industry certification and can compete in national career skills contests. Possible careers in welding include sheet metal worker, construction manager, aerospace operations technician, and aircraft mechanic and service technician. (CCSD Press Release)
  4. Woodstock Parks and Recreation is looking for volunteers to help maintain the area butterfly gardens, including the proposed Eastern Swallowtail Garden at Olde Rope Mill Park. The volunteers will meet throughout the year for informational classes and working sessions. The first Thursday of each month is a required workday for volunteers, held at the Monarch Butterfly Garden at Dupree Park and the Gulf Fritillary Butterfly Garden at the William G.   • Convoy of Care is hosting a disaster relief collection event benefitting those affected by Hurricane Ian. Specific items are requested: non-perishable food items, personal hygiene kits for all ages, underwear and socks, diapers, wipes, baby formula and cleaning supplies. The drop-off site is at the First Baptist Church, 11905 Highway 92. Head to the SE corner of the campus off of Gunnin Road. (10 a.m. - 6 p.m.)
  • Adult Mini-Pumpkin Painting: Create a mini-pumpkin painting and compete for a special prize. Completed paintings will be displayed at the library. Please register online for the event at R.T. Jones Memorial Library, 116 Brown Industrial Parkway, Canton. (5:30 - 6:30 p.m.)
  • Shut Up & Write! Cherokee County / Woodstock: join the Meetup group for an hour of writing, surrounded by writers. Quick introductions at 6 p.m., writing starts at 6:15, and when the end of the session comes at 7:15, you can hang around to chat, keep on writing or you can head out.   • Woodstock Fire & Rescue is holding an open house at the 225 Arnold Mill Road station on Saturday, October 8, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. There will be live extrication and K-9 demonstrations, firefighter drills, fire truck displays, station tours, a kids' hose line experience, and free food and bounce houses.   • The 2022 Lantern Festival is coming to Etowah River Park on Saturday, November 5. The festival will benefit Never Alone Food Pantry in Woodstock and will feature a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting, spin art and more.   • Reminder: The last Unwind Wednesday is being held on October 5 at Cherokee Veterans Park, 7345 Cumming Highway, Canton. This last event is going to be Halloween themed. Trunk or Treat will be going on from 5:30 - 8 p.m. Head over to the park for food trucks, desserts, trunk or treat, games and more.
