- If you're looking for somewhere to stay warm and safe at night for the next few days, there are two warming centers open in Cherokee County. Latimer Hall, located at 103 Towne Lake Parkway, will be opening up at noon on Friday and will be closing at 9 a.m. on Monday. Please arrive by 6 p.m. each evening. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be served. The second warming center will be at Action Church, located at 271 Marietta Road in Canton, this center will be open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6 p.m. each evening to the following morning at 8 a.m. Dinner and breakfast will be served. Please note, if no one arrives at the Woodstock or Canton centers by 10 p.m. and 11 p.m. respectively, the center will not open for the night. (Woodstock Press Release)
- The body found in the area of Reformation Parkway and Waleska Street in Canton in November has been identified. The deceased is John Waller of Canton, 62, and he was found in the same area where two other bodies were found in the months prior to his passing. In June, the body of William Watkins was found along Waleska Street. The death was ruled a homicide. A suspect is currently in jail awaiting trial. In July, a drowning took the life of Pedro Hernandez-Santiago. Though the deaths of Waller and Hernandez-Santiago appear unrelated, Waller's cause of death is still undetermined. The Canton Police Department asks that anyone with information on either incident reach out to them by calling 770-720-4883. (WSB-TV Atlanta)
- There were reports of several downed trees and power lines and Cherokee County has had reports of several downed trees and power lines. One tree fell on Victory Drive and landed on power lines early Friday morning, though no weather-related roadway issues have been reported at this time. There were 3,153 customers impacted by power outages in Canton early Friday morning, but by evening, there were less than 5 reported outages in the County shown on the Georgia Power outage map. Temperatures are expected to improve throughout the coming week, with a predicted rise to 39 degrees by Monday and to an even nicer 56 degrees by the end of next week. (Atlanta News First)
