What's Your VDay Story?

As much as I avoid the mushy gushy, this brought tears to my eyes.

I've never been big on Valentine's Day. I've celebrated the Single Awareness Day with my girlfriends and also spent a little extra time on dinner with my boyfriend.

This isn't a holiday we've ever considered to give big, extravagant presents or dust off the tie to fight the lines at . A bouquet of flowers means just as much to me this week as it will next week.

But, and I throw a huge "but" in there, I was surprised one Valentine's Day. I had been out of town for a journalism conference, nerdy, I know, and nonchalantly brushed off the fact that we wouldn't be spending the day together.

When I returned to my room, I was unable to push the door open because of the red, heart-shaped balloons that were fighting against it. Each balloon had a photo of us dangling from the string.

Now, let me tell you, I am not a romantic nor do I thrive off the gushy tales of happily ever after, but I would be lying if I didn't admit I had a waterfall of tears pouring down my face. It could have been from the lack of sleep from the previous nights with the many heated AP style discussions, but for the sake of needing a romantic touch, we'll say it was the grand gesture that unleashed the emotions.

Once I tangled my way through the overwhelming amount of balloons, I found a single pink, cut out heart in the middle of the room that read, "Dinner at my place?"

Oh, boy, there went the tears again.

We had dinner late that night, it might have even been the wee hours of the morning, complimented by a bouquet of flowers that I still have hanging in my room.
