WOODSTOCK, GA — Popular Texas-burger chain, Whataburger, will soon be planting roots in Woodstock.

The Woodstock City Council approved the company's request to build a location at 9766 Highway 92, replacing the Cherokee Family Medical Center, and next to Truett’s Chick-fil-A. Construction could begin in 2022.

In August, the legendary Texas fast food chain announced it would open its first location in metro Atlanta in Cobb County. It is also considering opening dozens of other locations in the metro over the next few years — including in Loganville, Buford, Snellville, Cumming and Peachtree City, Patch previously reported.

Whataburger has more than 840 locations, most of them in Texas. Only one Whataburger — a Thomasville location that debuted in 2005 — is open in Georgia as of publication. Whataburgers in Valdosta and Brunswick opened and have since closed.
