- A fire broke out early Friday morning at a residence on Evans Street in Woodstock. The fire quickly gutted the two-story home, but the three family members inside were able to escape before the crews from Cherokee County Fire & Emergency Services arrived. The Red Cross is providing assistance to the residents, two of whom were taken to the hospital to be evaluated Friday morning. The cause of the fire is under investigation. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
- While you're downtown this weekend, don't forget to vote for your favorite Scarecrow Invasion scarecrow. You can cast your vote at the Woodstock Visitors Center on Main Street during normal business hours. The visitors center is open today from 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. but closed on Sunday. Each vote is $1, which benefits InSeason Woodstock, the IN WDSTK design committee responsible for downtown beautification projects. If you'd like to participate in a scavenger hunt, you can grab a Scarecrow Scavenger Hunt sheet from the visitors center or print it out from the Facebook page. Each Friday, Downtown Woodstock is releasing the top-10 scarecrow standings on its Facebook page. You can click here to see the full list. The top 5, starting at the top, are Primrose School of Sixes Road & Bells Ferry, Diesel David Inc, Lights Up! Entertainment, Pie Bar and Salon and Spa Venessa. (Downtown Woodstock via Facebook)
- If you're a fan of data like I am, you'll love the Woodstock Data Hub. There are all sorts of great tools on the website, like a zoning and property viewer, maps of downtown parking, new businesses and now, a major projects map. The interactive map shows active residential and commercial construction, approved future construction and properties involved in a public hearing case. You can find the Woodstock Data Hub here and the Major Projects map here. (City of Woodstock Mapping Services Data Hub)
- The Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News is reporting that 9,483 people in our county voted during the first four days of early voting. The number is almost double that of the first four days of 2018 early voting. The first four days of the 2018 early voting period saw 4,892 votes. Added to the total, 1,918 absentee ballots were deemed valid this week, bringing the grand total to 11,401 votes cast. Way to go, Cherokee County! Even more exciting, Woodstock's voting location on Main Street was named the most popular, with 4,009 early voters heading out this week. (Subscription: Cherokee Tribune & Ledger-News)
