Woodstock Middle School seventh-grader Cynthia Higginbotham is the Cherokee County winner for the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District’s annual contest open to all metro Atlanta middle schoolers.
Students were invited to write an essay about the impact of floods, droughts and other extreme weather on access to clean, safe water. Cynthia wrote a fictional story about three girls living at different times, including in the future, and how weather impacts their water supply and lives. Her essay is posted on the CCSD website at http://www.cherokeek12.net/News/water22.

“Congratulations to Cynthia on winning this regional award for her outstanding writing,” Superintendent of Schools Dr. Brian V. Hightower said. “Her story, through its creativity, makes a complicated issue more understandable and engaging for her peers. I appreciate her dedication, and the teachers, including STEM teacher Stephanie Vidrine, who have guided her learning about this issue.”
Cynthia, her family and school staff have been invited to the State Capitol for the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District awards ceremony later this month. The Cherokee County School Board and Dr. Hightower also will recognize Cynthia at the School Board’s December meeting.
