Here are the top five stories today in Woodstock-Towne Lake:
- The Board of Commissioners approved an agreement with the cities in Cherokee County to allow citizens to vote on the extension of the one-cent Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST) in November. If passed, Cherokee County would remain one of only four counties in Georgia with a 6% sales tax rate. All other counties have a sales tax rate of 7% or higher. (Cherokee County Press Release)
- The Cherokee County School District is now offering a paid internship program for school psychologists and speech language pathologists. Check out the online job listing to see the minimum requirements and the benefits offered. (CCSD via Facebook)
- The Cherokee County Animal Shelter is holding an adoption event today. Starting at 10 a.m., you can join the "virtual line" by scanning the QR code found on the front door of the shelter. Adoption fees will be waived for the back-to-school event and available animals can be found online. Adoptions include spay and neuter, heartworm and leukemia testing, vaccinations, deworming, flea preventative, a microchip and more. (Cherokee County Animal Shelter via Facebook)
- Two monkeypox cases have been confirmed in the North Georgia Health District. Identifying the location of the cases further is prohibited by HIPAA regulations. The North Georgia Health District includes Cherokee, Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Pickens and Whitfield counties. Our district offers free monkeypox vaccinations by appointment only at the Cherokee County Health Department Woodstock Health Center on Main Street. You can register by calling 770-928-0133. - Corner Street Taco Bar in Woodstock failed its restaurant inspection with a 65 and an unsatisfactory rating. The reasons stated in the report for the failure were utensils stored in dirty containers and beef, sour cream and queso kept at unsafe temperatures. Insects were also found in the ice, which was kept inside a dirty cooler. (CBS 46 News)

- Farm. Fresh. Market. is open until noon every Saturday until December 31. (8:30 a.m.)
- "Yoga on Tap" at Reformation Brewery Woodstock. The beginner yoga session is $20, you can pay at the door. A free pint or coffee will be offered, bring a mat and some water. (10 a.m.)
- "Mother-Son Laser Tag" today at Stars and Strikes on Highway 92. Two games of laser tag, a round of bumper cars, arcade time and pizza. The event is for moms and their sons in kindergarten through 5th grade. $10 a person, please sign up online. (10 a.m.)
- "Rootin' Tootin' Root Beer Float Party" is happening at the Woodstock Public Library on Main Street. Enjoy root beef floats, crafts and fun activities. (noon)
- "Tea & Tarot" at Forever and a Day on Highway 92, today and every first Saturday of the month. (1 p.m.)
- "Classic Movie Matinee" at the Woodstock Public Library will show "His Girl Friday" (1940, Not Rated). Popcorn and refreshments will be provided, all ages are welcome. (2 p.m.)
- "Paella Party" demonstration class at Leaning Ladder on Main Street. (6:30 p.m.)
- "Suburban Angst to Rock," 90s alternative at Reformation Brewery Woodstock. (7 p.m.)
