• Mayor Bissen signs Bill 9 into law; says it will restore housing availability for residents (mauinow.com) — Maui County has enacted Bill 9, a sweeping zoning change meant to shift thousands of short-term vacation rentals back into long-term housing, with one council seat for the Kahului residency area still vacant. The law targets “Minatoya” TVRs in apartment-zoned districts, aiming to return more than 6,000 units to residents while still leaving thousands of visitor accommodations in place and accepting some loss in county tax revenue.
