• State Leaders Advise Residents on Airport Travel Enhancements Ahead of Holiday Season (hawaii.gov) — If you fly in or out of Kahului, watch for a new OGG Airport app launching January 20, 2026 to help you navigate the terminal, check flights, and access services. State leaders also highlighted a fully digital agriculture declaration form and other airport tech upgrades aimed at easing holiday travel and improving efficiency across Hawaiʻi’s airports.
   

• County reminds residents to submit Circuit Breaker, Home Exemption applications by Dec. 31 (mauinow.com) — Kahului homeowners can still pick up and submit Circuit Breaker Tax Credit and Home Exemption applications at the Maui County Service Center on ʻAlaʻihi Street, but the deadline is Dec. 31. If you own and occupy your home as your principal residence, you may qualify for significant property tax relief, so it’s worth checking the criteria and grabbing forms in person or online.
   

• Mayor Bissen signs Bill 9 into law; says it will restore housing availability for residents (mauinow.com) — Maui County has enacted Bill 9, a sweeping zoning change meant to shift thousands of short-term vacation rentals back into long-term housing, with one council seat for the Kahului residency area still vacant. The law targets “Minatoya” TVRs in apartment-zoned districts, aiming to return more than 6,000 units to residents while still leaving thousands of visitor accommodations in place and accepting some loss in county tax revenue.
