Baldwin senior helps deliver 500 plants to Lahaina families through internship (mauinow.com) — Lahaina families returning to rebuilt homes are receiving more than 500 donated plants, delivered by Baldwin High School senior and Mahi Pono intern Hailey Souza to help restore greenery and hope after the 2023 wildfires. The internship program taught Maui students plant propagation and community agriculture, and Souza is now growing hundreds more native seedlings for West Maui families as part of her senior project.
   

2. ‘Long time coming': High hopes ahead of Lahaina Harbor's slow reopening (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Lahaina Harbor will partially reopen to commercial tours on Dec. 15, bringing whale-watching boats and badly needed jobs back to West Maui’s waterfront. Only four operators, including longtime Hawaii Ocean Project captain David Jung, are approved initially, with daytime-only hours because power is still out. Officials will add barriers to protect burned, sensitive areas while cautiously welcoming visitors again.
   

3. Texas attorney sentenced for illegally soliciting Hawaii wildfire victims (hawaiinewsnow.com) — Lahaina residents should know a Texas lawyer who mass-mailed Maui wildfire victims was found to have illegally solicited clients and was ordered to pay court fees but avoided jail and a conviction. State officials say he also voluntarily donated $1,000 each to four Lahaina public schools, while Hawaii’s disciplinary authorities continue separate professional sanctions against him and other out-of-state attorneys.
   

4. Flashing back: Steely Dan's Grammy-winning album recorded in ʻUlupalakua turns 25 : Maui Now (mauinow.com) — A longtime Maui audio engineer is reflecting on the 25th anniversary of Steely Dan’s Grammy-winning “Two Against Nature,” much of which was recorded in ʻUlupalakua. His path began at George Benson’s Lahaina Sound Recording Studio and other Lahaina projects, leading to decades of work with major artists before his retirement from studio life. It’s a reminder of how Lahaina helped shape global music history.
