• Maui Council passes short-term rental conversion bill (staradvertiser.com) — Paia is among the Maui communities affected by a new county bill phasing out more than 6,200 short‑term rentals so they can become long‑term housing. Bill 9, now headed to the mayor, targets mostly South and West Maui units but also touches a smaller share in Hana, Paia and Molokai, with conversion timelines and possible hotel rezoning still to be decided.
