Idaho Department Of Environmental Quality To Host Session To Answer Questions On Algae Blooms

The Idaho Department of Environmental Quality will host a public open house focused on cyanobacteria, cyanotoxins and water quality monitoring at Lake Cascade, according to a news release.

The open house will take place from 12 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. July 13 at the American Legion Hall, 105 E. Mill St., in Cascade. Cyanobacteria blooms, also known as harmful algal blooms, are not uncommon in warm summer weather, and an early bloom developed in mid-June in Lake Cascade, the news release said. It sparked questions and concerns among residents.
Representatives from the Department of Environmental Quality, the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Idaho Department of Health and Welfare, Central District Health and other agencies will be available to answer questions about cyanotoxin health effects, water quality sampling and monitoring, and public safety.
