After 2nd Warmest Christmas On Record, Colder Temps Coming To IL

After several days with temperatures close to or in the 50s, temperatures will cool a bit this week — with a slight chance of snow.

ILLINOIS — With a high of 59 degrees on Christmas Day, the holiday is officially the second-warmest Christmas on record. This year beat out 2019's record of 57 degrees, but didn't manage to defeat the warmest Christmas on record, which was 64 degrees in 1982, according to the National Weather Service data.

After several days with temperatures close to or in the 50s, temperatures will cool slightly this week.

"Temperatures will be a bit cooler than late over the next several days, but remain warmer than normal for the end of December," the weather service said.

Normal temperatures for the end of December are typically in the upper 20s, so expected temperatures this year will be about 10 degrees above average, according to data from the weather service.

Tuesday will have a high of 46, Wednesday a high of 43, Thursday a high of 42 and Friday a high of 41.

Most of the week looks to be cloudy and dry, although there is a chance of on Wednesday night, and another chance on Thursday. There is also a slight chance of rain and snow on Thursday night, according to the weather service.
