ILLINOIS — Above average temperatures in the Chicago area have been the standard for almost all of December, and it seems that will continue as we approach the Christmas holidays.
AccuWeather has shared its Christmas travel forecast, and conditions look good for traveling Illinoisans, especially those using air travel.
Thursday and Friday are expected to be the most active days for flight departures, and the Chicago area will have "good" conditions on Thursday and "fair" conditions on Friday, according to AccuWeather.

Saturday will also have "fair" conditions, followed by "good" conditions on Christmas Eve.
The only snag in the plans for travelers could be possible wet weather. Rain and showers will develop across the northern Plains by Christmas Eve, and may push eastward toward Illinois on Christmas Day.

"Chances increase for a swath of rain over portions of the lower Great Lakes, Mississippi Valley and part of the Ohio and Tennessee valleys," AccuWeather said.
Right now, AccuWeather is forecasting a high of 50 degrees on Christmas Eve, with rain possible starting Sunday night. Milder temperatures will stick around for Christmas Day, which has a forecast high of 49 on and a forecast of "a thick cloud cover and mild with a little rain."
