Big Wins For Democrats: Illinois 2018 Election Results
Blue Illinois: Democrats took the governor's race and held onto the attorney general, secretary of state, comptroller and treasurer seats.

ILLINOIS — Would it be a red tide or a blue wave? Both left- and right-leaning pundits still didn't seem to know as we headed into the 2018 midterms. Here in Illinois, it wound up a "blue wave" as Democrats took or kept control of statewide offices.
Republican Gov. Bruce Rauner — dubbed the worst Republican governor in the U.S. by National Review and slammed as "Benedict Rauner" after angering the GOP base by signing a bill that allows Medicaid to fund abortions —conceded an early defeat to Democrat billionaire J.B. Pritzker. Pritzker leads in the polls but has faced some controversy of his own, including allegations of campaign racism, a "blackface" scandal and reports that he removed toilets from one of his mansions to dodge taxes.
Meanwhile, current State Sen. Kwame Raoul defeated Erika Harold in the attorney general's race, and Democratic Comptroller Susana Mendoza, Treasurer Mike Frerichs and Secretary of State Jesse White won re-election.

Democrats also snatched seats from Republicans in other key districts. Naperville nurse Lauren Underwood defeated Republican Rep. Randy Hultgren in the 14th District. The 32-year-old political newcomer won the backing of former Vice President Joe Biden and quickly gained a strong following. Meanwhile, in the 6th Congressional District, Democrat Sean Casten defeated incumbent Rep. Peter Roskam.
Plus, a Nazi and self-avowed Holocaust denier running as a Republican found himself on a ballot at long last, but lost to Democratic Rep. Dan Lipinski, who was seeking a seventh term in the 3rd Congressional District.
