Over 700 Layoffs In IL: Sears, DuPont, Marshalls

Layoffs and closings also affect two Illinois hospitals, Cars.com and more.

ILLINOIS — Multiple Illinois employers including Sears, Marshalls and a Springfield hospital have recently issued layoff notices, warning of roughly 710 job cuts across the state. As of November, Illinois' unemployment rate was 4.1 percent, down from 4.2 percent in October and down .5 percent compared with a year earlier, according to the Illinois Department of Employment Security.

Under the WARN (Illinois Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification) Act, companies must notify the state when they play mass layoffs or closures. Here are the most recent WARN notices:

  • Cars.com, 300 S. Riverside Plaza, Chicago: Permanent closing affecting 112 workers; first layoff date is Feb. 15.
  • Marshalls, 1422 W. 47th, Chicago: Permanent closing affecting 56 workers; first layoff date is Jan. 31.
  • Marshalls, 11620 S. Marshfield Ave., Chicago: Permanent closing affecting 47 workers; first layoff date is Jan. 31.
  • Sears, 7310 W. 87th St., Bridgeview: Permanent closing affecting 68 workers; first layoff date was Jan. 26.
  • Bridgeview Bank Mortgage Co., 100 W. 22nd St.: Permanent closing affecting 116 workers; first layoff date was Nov. 11.
  • Gateway Regional Medical Center, 2100 Madison Ave., Granite City: Permanent closing affecting 89 workers; first layoff date is Jan. 31.
  • Kerry, Inc., 320 Gridley Road, Gridley: Permanent closing affecting 113 workers; first layoff date is Feb. 14.
  • Vibra Hospital of Springfield LLC, 701 N. Walnut St., Springfield: Permanent closing affecting 188 workers; first layoff date was Jan. 4.
  • DuPont, 2830 Highway 24, El Paso, IL: Permanent closing affecting 33 workers; first layoff date is Feb. 28.
