Snowfall Totals In As Below-Zero Wind Chill Moves Into Illinois

Friday night's snowstorm brought nearly 5 inches to some areas. Expect a steep temperature drop and wind gusts of up to 45 mph Saturday.

ILLINOIS — Friday night's snowstorm grounded flights, causing long waits for inbound flights and more than 1,200 flight delays and cancellations. It also dumped nearly five inches of snow on some areas — and now that the storm is over, below-zero wind chills are expected late Saturday.

Here are the snowfall totals for Friday night's winter storm, according to the National Weather Service:

Subzero wind chills coming

Snow gave way to a rainy Saturday morning, with temperatures in the mid-30s, but a mass of cold air moving into the area will bring wind gusts of up to 45 mph and a steep temperature drop by Saturday night.

Scattered snow showers are possible Saturday afternoon. By Saturday night, the coldest winter air of the season will move into the area, with wind chills that could drop to -10 to more than -20 degrees by Sunday morning.

By 6 a.m. Sunday, WGN predicted a -25 wind chill in Waukegan, -24 wind chill in Aurora and -22 wind chill in Joliet.
