Temps Near 40 All Week; No Rain Or Snow In The Forecast

If you were hoping for a white Christmas, it may be time to start wishing for a snowy New Year's instead.

ILLINOIS — With temperatures near the 40s forecast all week, chances seem to be dwindling that Chicago will see a white Christmas this year.

This week, Monday will have a high of 37 degrees, with a gradual clearing of cloudy skies, according to the National Weather Service.

Clear and sunny skies will continue through most of the week, and there is a high of 39 degrees expected for Tuesday, 39 on Wednesday, 45 on Thursday and 47 on Friday.

"Highs over the next several days will be near-normal for mid-December with no rain or snow expected through the end of the week," the weather service said.

In the 8-14 day temperature outlook from the National Weather Service, most of the country looks to see above normal temperatures. The outlook, which is valid through Dec. 24, places the Chicago area "likely above" normal temperatures.

The precipitation outlook also looks to be "leaning below" normal for the Chicago area, according to the weather service.

Historically, Chicago saw a 34 percent chance of a white Christmas based on data from 1991 to 2020, according to the weather service.

So, if you were holding out hope for a white Christmas, it may be time to start hoping for snow in January instead.
